Time isn’t something you can buy, borrow or steal; but it can be monitored, well spent or wasted. Checking the time should be a nice quick reminder of where you are in the day.
However, what I’ve found is that since the rise of the smart phone I have fallen in the habit of pulling it out wherever I am to check the time. I then find myself checking over social media accounts, my ever growing email list and any other sort of notification my phone push through. Ultimately, checking the time has gone a quick, smooth glance at a wrist to a time wasting scrawl through the internet.
From being small I’ve always wanted an expensive watch, a watch that I can be proud of, something to represent how hard I’ve worked to buy such an item. I’ve also wanted a quality watch that can act as a sort of family heirloom for when I have kids/grandkids.
For me, I always imagined buying a brand new Rolex, Omega or Breitling; but now there are so many places to buy a genuine pre-owned model that it makes complete sense to me to buy second hand (no pun intended).
I’ve found a few places online where this can be done, and taken a few recommendations from friends and the site that keeps coming up is Xupes. Xupes is a based in Bishops Stortford and holds home to over 7,000 preloved items!
Here’s a list of a few of my favourites and some watches I wish to own some day:
Classically styled and in near perfect condition, this Rolex submariner would make a perfect addition to my already monochromatic wardrobe
Another stainless steel piece, the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph. Although it’s 9 years old, it still looks brand new.
Again, another stainless steel watch (can you see my preferences yet?). This watch is only 3 years old and in immaculate condition. Not to mentioned that the speedmaster was the first watch to be worn on the moon!
I’m not normally one for flash items, or anything with jewels , but the understated diamonds in this watch really shows the attention to detail that goes into building and designing the perfect watch.
So, from this day I’m now on a super saving mission to finally treat and reward myself with something I’ve been after since I was around 14 years old, a classic timepiece.
Do any of you guys have a high-end watch? Any recommendations?
